Universal Mouse DPI Converter
Switch mouse DPI from 400, 800, 1600 to 3200 without changing your aim muscle memory or physical turn distance.
Popular DPI Conversion Cheat Sheet
Compare standard sensitivity conversions when upgrading your hardware DPI while maintaining a 280 eDPI target:
| Hardware DPI | Valorant Sens | CS2 Sens | Overwatch Sens | Apex Legends Sens |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 400 DPI | 0.700 | 2.227 | 7.420 | 2.227 |
| 800 DPI | 0.350 | 1.114 | 3.710 | 1.114 |
| 1200 DPI | 0.233 | 0.742 | 2.473 | 0.742 |
| 1600 DPI | 0.175 | 0.557 | 1.855 | 0.557 |
| 3200 DPI | 0.088 | 0.278 | 0.928 | 0.278 |
Everything You Need to Know About Sensitivity Math
Learn how game engine yaw multipliers work, how to preserve muscle memory, and how to calibrate your mouse settings.
How do I convert my in-game sensitivity when changing mouse DPI?
The formula is: New Sensitivity = (Current DPI × Current Sensitivity) ÷ New DPI. For instance, if you play at 400 DPI with 0.8 sensitivity and switch to 800 DPI, your new sensitivity is (400 × 0.8) ÷ 800 = 0.40. Your effective DPI (eDPI) and physical distance per 360° turn (cm/360) remain identical.
Why should I switch from 400 or 800 DPI to 1600 DPI?
Modern optical sensors perform with lower input latency and less micro-stutter at 1600 DPI compared to 400 DPI. At 400 DPI, tiny mouse adjustments can result in 'pixel skipping' or delayed cursor motion. Running 1600 DPI with a lower in-game sensitivity delivers smoother tracking without sacrificing aim consistency.
Will changing my mouse DPI ruin my muscle memory?
Not if you convert your sensitivity accurately! Aim muscle memory is tied to physical hand travel distance (cm/360° turn), not the DPI number on your mouse software. By dividing your in-game sensitivity proportionally, your mousepad hand movement will feel identical.
What is eDPI versus hardware DPI?
Hardware DPI (Dots Per Inch) is the physical resolution of your optical mouse sensor. eDPI (Effective DPI) is your hardware DPI multiplied by your software in-game sensitivity. eDPI normalizes sensitivity across different DPI hardware settings.
Does Windows cursor sensitivity affect in-game mouse DPI conversion?
Most modern competitive shooters (Valorant, CS2, Overwatch 2, Apex Legends) use Raw Input, which bypasses Windows pointer speed settings completely. However, ensure Windows pointer speed is set to 6/11 and 'Enhance Pointer Precision' (mouse acceleration) is turned OFF for pure 1:1 desktop tracking.
